PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

Air operated diaphragm pumps move fluid by the alternate and repeated back-and-forth movement (strokes) of two diaphragms connected by a common shaft and are placed in opposite chambers. Both chambers have a common inlet and outlet ports.

As air enters the air chamber, the shaft is pushed either to the left or to the right, causing one diaphragm to be pushed while the other is pulled towards the center. The diaphragm that’s pushed by the shaft is the one at the discharge stroke, while the other is at its suction stroke. The fluid suction and discharge volumes are controlled by check valves that are placed at before the inlet and outlet ports of each chamber.
