Industrial WSP wastewater pump system installation resolving pump clogging issues, featuring a large centrifugal pump with green and yellow motors, utilized for municipal sewage and sludge handling

Overview

One of the most significant challenges wastewater treatment plants face daily is handling stringy material from various sources. This material often gets stuck in the impellers of trash pumps, leading to maintenance issues. Instead of regular trash pumps, we recommended using a pump with a preliminary stage for treating solid wastes before they enter the pump, like the Trillium WSP self-primer pump.

This pump isn’t your regular non-clog trash pump. It features a shredding mechanism at the suction to break down stringy materials, preventing them from entangling with the impeller. We recently recommended the WSP pump to a client who was continuously troubled by stringy materials in their wastewater application.

Problem

An industrial plant contacted All-Pumps to assist with a wastewater application that had been causing significant issues. The stringy solids in the waste were jamming their Gorman Rupp trash pumps. They had considered using submersible pumps, but the pit's temperature meant this made this option unfeasible due to the risk of overheated motors. They also tested cheaper Chinese centrifugal pumps to reduce replacement costs, but the downtime in repairs became increasingly lengthy and costly.

Solution

All-Pumps installed a WSP self-primer pump with a unique buzz saw wear plate to thoroughly shear stringy waste.

Project Highlights

The WSP self-primer pump is a rugged and dependable self-priming solids-handling trash pump. Distinguishable from our competitors, the WSP self-primer pump design allows for shim-less, tool-less impeller adjustment and ease of suction flap valve replacement.

Key features/benefits

  1. The Buzzsaw wear plate—The Buzzsaw wear plate is a standard feature on the WSP self-primer pump. Its aggressive saw tooth profile shears stringy materials as they pass through the pump, preventing clogs.
  2. Self-priming—The ability of WSP self-primer pumps to eliminate manual priming, handle air and gases, save time, and adapt to various fluids is nothing short of remarkable. Manual priming is a tedious process that’s both time-consuming and labour-intensive. With this process eliminated in self-priming pumps, WSP offers hassle-free pump initiation that’s also less energy-consuming and costly.
  3. Others:
  • Fill Port Cover and Clamp Bar Assembly: The clamp bar assembly's recessed bolt-locking construction and anti-rotation design prevent accidental breaches of the fill port cover and protect the operator from scalding burns.
  • Reduced maintenance: WSP pumps have fewer parts than other types, requiring less maintenance and ensuring a longer lifespan.
  • Flexibility: Self-priming pumps can handle a wide range of fluids, including those with high solids or gases.

After using the WSP self-primer pump in their treatment plant for some time, the client no longer experienced jamming and breakdowns and told our team that they wouldn’t look past our WSP pumps for their future trash pump installations.
