PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

Gear Pumps

ROPER helical/external pump unit is chosen when a viscous fluid which will be transferred at low rpm, and where a smooth discharge of fluid is required.

Gears are mounted above each other within the head with one being driven by the motor. They are timed to mesh with fluid flowing into the open cavities, rotated in between the teeth and casing and transferred to the outlet. Fluid travels between cavities within the teeth and cavity. The fluid is trapped by the teeth as they rotate. As a fluid chooses the path of least resistance fluid flows towards the discharge via the meshed parts.

Progressive Cavity Pumps

Progressive cavity pumps are used in precision applications, so they come with tight tolerances. This type of positive displacement pump consists of two very important parts. Generally, there will be a helical rotor inside of a double helical hole. As the rotor spins inside of the pump body, cavities are left behind. This is where the fluid will reside as the helical rotor turns. These cavities maintain a constant shape as the rotor turns and moves the fluid through the pump. That being said, these pumps must be manufactured with precision to ensure efficient operations.
