PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

Submersible Grinder Pump

The Piranha PE and S series’ cutter system puts them in a class of their own. The design features a lobed rotor cutting element attached to the impeller. This part rotates inside a stationary cutting element fastened to a spiral-grooved bottom plate. The stationary cutter has wave-shaped castellations. The number of castellations is one less than the number of lobes, causing an opening to be formed between the two cutting elements during the operation. The normal pumping action causes wastewater to flow between the cutting elements. The solids that come with the wastewater are sheared into small particles and pumped out of the discharge. When shredded particles wedge between the impeller and bottom plate, the outward threaded spiral grooves will force them out the discharge.
