Graco QUANTM i120 electric diaphragm pump installed in an industrial fluid handling system with stainless steel piping and pressure gauges. Engineered for efficient chemical transfer and process applications, offering energy savings and low maintenance compared to traditional air-operated diaphragm pumps.

Overview

All-Pumps recently replaced a traditional air-operated diaphragm pump with the new Graco QUANTM electric double diaphragm pump for a resin and polymer mixing application. The client sought a solution to address the noisy operation and lack of remote control capabilities of their existing pump. The Graco QUANTM proved to be the perfect upgrade, offering ultra-quiet performance and integrated controls that give the client full command of their operations.

Problem

The client aimed to address several issues with their existing setup, including manual control, excessive noise, and frequent stalling caused by a contaminated and moist compressed air supply. Additionally, they required a new pump with IECEx certification, an essential safety standard for hazardous areas, offering peace of mind and enhanced confidence in their operations.

Solution

All-Pumps recommended the Graco QUANTM i120 2" Polypropylene/PTFE pump to replace the client’s problematic air-operated diaphragm pump (AODD) on site. This electric-operated double diaphragm (EODD) pump features a 4-20 mA input, enabling seamless PLC speed and power control for automated operation with minimal supervision. Its electric design also eliminates the need for a noisy on-site compressor. Additionally, the QUANTM pump’s conductive polypropylene construction meets the client’s requirement for IECEx-certified equipment, ensuring safe operation in hazardous areas.

Project Highlights

The QUANTM electric pump we recommended was the ideal solution for the client’s needs, offering the following features and benefits:

  • Completely electric, operating quietly at less than 75 dB, thus reducing plant noise and improving employee safety and health.
  • In-built VFD for easy control of pump speed and flow – also controllable via PLC (programmable logic controller)
  • IECEx Certified for Hazardous Areas (Ex db IIB T4 Gb) with conductive polypropylene construction
  • Designed to auto-stall without damaging it –a characteristic unique to electric pumps.

QUANTM EODD pumps also offer:

  • Run dry capabilities
  • Innovative Fluxcor motor, offering at least 80% more energy savings than an AODD
  • Plug and play for convenient equipment handling and maintenance
  • Solids-handling capabilities
  • A Graco QUANTM pump resting on the ground next to a pipe
  • A Graco QUANTM pump placed on the ground adjacent to a pipe
  • A Graco QUANTM AODD pump positioned on a concrete floor
  • A Graco QUANTM AODD pump displayed on a concrete floor
