The Problem
A client required a replacement for their existing magnetic drive pump used for transferring 98.5% sulfuric acid. Given the hazardous nature of the acid, ensuring safe handling and protecting the equipment were critical considerations. Additionally, the client needed expansion joints for a 4-inch pipeline connection.
The Solution
We supplied a Finish Thompson magnetic drive pump with a mining-spec motor, providing efficient operation and lower power consumption compared to the client’s previous unit on site.

Project Highlight
Magnetic drive pumps are ideal for transferring corrosive chemicals, providing leak prevention and requiring minimal maintenance. We recommended the FTI UC magnetic drive centrifugal pumps, specifically designed for handling high concentrations of sulfuric acid. These pumps feature a robust ductile iron construction, ETFE lining for superior corrosion resistance, and carbon bushings for dry-run protection. Additionally, the FTI UC pumps utilise fully encapsulated neodymium magnets, ensuring reliable direct-drive performance within a magnetic drive system.
Coupled with a mine-spec WEG motor, this solution delivers exceptional performance, reliability, and compliance with energy regulations while reducing operational costs.
