Grundfos' Circulator

Blacoh pulsation dampener Logo
Grundfos circulator pumps are designed for best-in-class efficiency with low maintenance. Compared to conventional circulators, these rotor pumps can cut your energy costs by up to 80 % while delivering noise-free performance. The stainless steel and bronze pumps are good for moving potable water in open-loop circulation due to their excellent rust and corrosion resistance. Meanwhile, the cast iron pumps are the standard choice for close-looped circulation due to the material’s low cost and good performance in handling de-oxygenated water.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

Circulator pumps are inline centrifugal type pumps and are heavily used in HVAC applications. Fluid from source enters the pump via the inlet and enters the eye of the impeller, this water will be trapped between the blades of the impeller within the pump housing.
The motor rotates the shaft and the impeller. Kinetic energy is formed as the impeller rotates and this energy is transferred to the fluid. The kinetic energy and fluid velocity continue to increase as the fluid is forced to the edge of the impeller vanes. By the time the water reaches the edge of the impeller, it has already reached a very high velocity. Fluid then falls into the volute, hitting the pump casing walls. As the water moves outwards and off the impeller, a low-pressure region is created at the center of the impeller, pulling more water into the pump. This now creates the continuous flow in a centrifugal pump.
