How All-Pumps Solved High Pressure Needs in a Mine Site

June 18, 2024

Overview

A reliable water supply is not just a requirement but a lifeline for mining operations and mineral processing. Leveraging its unmatched expertise, All-Pumps sources the best pumps for the supply and transfer of water from various sources such as groundwater, surface water of rivers and lakes, treated water or even seawater for use in mine sites.

Problem

A mine site in Northern Australia sought assistance from All-Pumps to boost the pressure of harsh, raw water for their ore processing. We provided the client with several specialised multistage pumps in full mount up with mine-spec motors to meet their high-volume and high-pressure water requirements.  Additionally, all equipment was delivered ahead of schedule for their process upgrade.

The Solution

Following a comprehensive pump selection process that took into account the application and site condition requirements All-Pumps recommended using Nexus PMST80/8A horizontal multistage pumps long coupled with WEG W22 mine-spec motors.
Several multistage pump sets were supplied to a mine site to suit their process application's high-pressure and high-volume requirements.

Project Highlights

Effective water supply is crucial in the mineral processing phase of a mining operation. Since water sources are typically located at a distance from mine sites, high-pressure pumps are often needed for efficient and fast water transfer.

For this project, our team handpicked Nexus PMST80/8A horizontal multistage pumps, meeting the client’s required 40 bar pressure. Renowned for their excellent hydraulic performance, these Nexus pumps are designed to deliver high flow rates while using less energy, making them a cost-effective solution for the application.

We coupled the pump with 50-60hz 160 kW 2-pole WEG W22 mining motors with IE3 premium efficiency for more significant energy savings. The motors are rated IP66, providing excellent protection against solid ingress from dust, dirt, and debris in the mines. These WEG motors were epoxy-coated at our workshop, adding a layer of security to the motor against corrosion.

To ensure ease of installation and to ensure stability, the pump and motor assemblies were mounted on custom baseframes made of 316 stainless steel. These baseframes were designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the mine site and provide a secure platform for the equipment.
