How They Work

AODD level controllers are designed to regulate the air supply to air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps, ensuring a consistent liquid level. While there isn't a distinct category of AODD level controllers, their variations largely depend on the design features of the AODD pumps they are used with.

These characteristics include flow rate, pressure capabilities, material compatibility, and the specific level-sensing mechanisms used, such as float switches, diaphragm actuators, pressure transducers, or ultrasonic sensors. Integrating these components improves the operational efficiency of an AODD pump and helps prevent dry running.

Level controllers improve the performance of AODD pumps by automatically managing the air supply, reducing air consumption while maximising operational efficiency and maintaining predetermined flow rates.
Level controllers are completely air-driven and typically ATEX-approved, providing safe control of liquid levels and protecting AODD pumps from inefficient dry running conditions.
Level controllers automatically switch pumps on and off for intermittent applications, ensuring they operate solely according to the operator's specifications.

AODD level controllers are widely used in applications that require precise liquid level control, especially when handling highly viscous or abrasive fluids. They are particularly effective in environments prone to dry running, making them ideal for industries such as chemical processing, wastewater treatment, and food manufacturing. When selecting an AODD level controller, several key factors should be considered:

Fluid type and viscosity
Flow rate requirements
Operating pressure
Material compatibility
Level sensing technology (float switch, diaphragm actuator, pressure transducer, ultrasonic sensor)

AODD level controllers operate using a displacer or actuator (such as a float or diaphragm) connected to the controller to detect liquid levels. The system functions as follows:

When the liquid level rises and the displacer reaches the high set point, the level controller sends a pneumatic signal to open the control valve.
When the liquid level drops and the displacer reaches the low set point, the level controller removes the pneumatic signal and switches to vent mode. This allows the air inside the valve actuator to escape through the level controller, causing the control valve to close.
