Screw pumps belong to the positive displacement pump principle and use one, or more, screws to move fluids or solids along the screw axis. They are preferred in many hygienic applications like food, diary, beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical processing.
The twin screw pumps offer a great feature in that they can operate over a large speed range. With this feature, these pumps can have a dual function in hygienic applications pumping the product at low speed and the CIP fluid at high speed, so no additional CIP pump is needed.
Due to the design, the twin screw pump can deliver a pulsation free flow on low viscosity product, volatile and gaseous fluids. Also, as a result of the design these pumps can create a high vacuum causing the pump to be self-priming.
A twin screw pump is a positive displacement pump what means that the pump is transferring a certain volume of product in accordance with the speed and pitch of the screws. While turning, the two screws are forming closed chambers that are moving in an axial direction. This movement creates a vacuum at inlet side and a pressure at the outlet. Due to this double chamber technic, there is an almost pulsation free working with high and low viscosity products.
