Overview
Transferring chemicals poses numerous challenges for pumps. One of its biggest difficulties is media composition, which can deteriorate a pump's construction due to the chemicals' highly corrosive properties. Additionally, safety is a major concern since most chemicals are pumped into potentially explosive areas. Therefore, pumps for handling chemicals must be resistant to corrosion, solvents, and abrasion and must be designed to be explosion-proof. Chemical pumps that are automated or can be controlled remotely would also be preferable.
Polypropylene pumps, like the QUANTM polyelectric-operated double diaphragm pump, have solved many of these challenges in chemical pumping. They are widely used in chemical pumping applications due to their ability to handle high corrosion resistance. They also boast lightweight construction, high strength against deformation, and a rugged design that can handle hazardous liquids efficiently.
One of our recent customers aimed to mitigate issues when pumping a fluid with potential chemical content. To achieve this, we recommended the Graco QUANTM i80 for their application.
Problem
The client required a mobile pump solution that could empty bunds with potential contamination from various corrosive chemicals. They needed to be able to control the pump's flow, and compressed air was not available at the site.
The Solution
All-Pumps set up a Graco QUANTM i80 polypropylene EODD pump according to client requirements. The pump was mounted on a steel trolley manufactured by our team at the workshop for portability.
Project Highlights
The QUANTM i80 EODD Pump is a reliable pump for applications involving chemicals. With a 1½" (38.1 mm) port, maximum flow rate of 300 litres per minute and a powerful new FluxCore 3-phase motor and drive that provide eight times more continuous torque at low speeds than conventional motors, the i80 EODD Pump is capable of handling demanding chemical transfer jobs. Designed with a chemical-resistant polypropylene fluid section that provides high corrosion resistance, this groundbreaking electric pump is built to efficiently handle most chemicals as well as fluids with low to high pH materials. - Self-Priming: QUANTM Pumps cans dry and wet prime from a source several metres below the pump.
