Food manufacturers are learning that eccentric disc pumps provide the perfect solution to commonly faced problems such as product wastage and high maintenance costs.

The food processing industry has traditionally used lobe and piston pumps, and in most situations they offer good sanitary qualities and are flexible across multiple products. However, the technology has its limitations.

High maintenance costs, low accuracy, poor volumetric consistency and significant product loss are burdens of the manufacturing industry. These problems are caused by constant rebuilds, leaking seals and product left at the bottom of the tanks and in the pipes.

The most efficient solution is an eccentric disc pump, operating on the eccentric movement principle – the disc placed inside a pump cylinder rotates, creating two distinct pumping chambers. This produces a regular flow rate with low pulsations, low cavitation, and limited slip or shear even when handling the most delicate products, such as whole strawberries in syrup.

The manufacturer of the eccentric disc pump, Mouvex, says there are ten key advantages of its pump technology over competing technologies:

  1. Self-priming
  2. Effective line-stripping
  3. High volumetric consistency against varying pressure
  4. High volumetric consistency against viscosity changes
  5. High volumetric consistency against wear
  6. No mechanical seals
  7. No pulsation
  8. Dry-run capable
  9. Totally hygienic (CIP, 3A, EHEDG approved)
  10. Low shear

The major advantage of eccentric disc pumps for the food processing industry is their ability to reduce operational costs via their product recovery capability.

Examples

1) A manufacturer of cookies was losing ca. 50kg of white chocolate coating per week, and was forced to clean the pump several times per month. They changed the lobe pump to an eccentric disc pump, which resulted in trouble-free 24/7 operation for over two years (and counting).

2) Due to poor volumetric consistency of an external circumferential piston pump, a sauce manufacturer was rejecting 15-20 per cent of the pouches not meeting the pre-determined weight. Changing to Mouvex allowed the manufacturer to save on time and money and significantly reduce product losses.

3) Yogurt manufacturers were losing more than $100,000 in product per line per year. An eccentric disc Mouvex pump helped the manufacturer recover over 70 per cent of the product and significantly improved their bottom line.

Australian manufacturers also value Mouvex pumps and use them for pumping chocolate, glucose, galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), yoghurt, cream and sauces. If you seek to improve your bottom line and achieve considerable product recovery, talk to All Pumps about this fantastic invention – the eccentric disc pump.

food processing customer needs to spray food oil on vegetables for cleaning and taste purposes. The oil needs to be supplied at a constant flow under medium pressure. They also require an internal relief valve to eliminate oversupplying of products.

As such, All Pumps coupled a Tuthill C Series internal gear pump with an 8 pole CMG motor. The high-speed allowance for this pump means the internal gears are capable of generating large flows and high pressure.

This customised pump is perfect for applications ranging from light to heavy viscosity.

All Pumps imports the complete line of Tuthill pumps, parts and accessories. We have installed, sold and serviced Tuthill pumps in a range of industries throughout Australia.

In hazardous and explosive environments, such as mines, electricity is usually not supplied as it is potentially risky and unsafe. Remote sites also do not have any power supply as it is cost inefficient to do so.

All these factors made it hard to pump fluid using traditional pumps such as centrifugal pumps or gear pumps. Fortunately, Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm (AODD) pumps usually work well under these conditions.

All Pumps supplied Wilden T20 3 inch cast iron pumps to a mining. The AOD pumps were mounted on roll frames for easy transport. The pumps also have a max flow rate of 1040Lpm, suitable for many work around the site.

All Pumps also supply Wilden spare parts. We also have loads of videos & manuals on our website.

When transferring products, portability and chemical compatibility are often hard to achieve safely, especially combined with the factor of a Zone 1, Class 1 rated area.

These factors pose as challenges when All Pumps was required to assemble portable transfer pumps that were rated for the explosive area and a vast range of chemicals.

In order to overcome these restrictions, Wilden PX800 Kynar PVDF pumps are mounted onto custom designed trolleys. They are suitable for a large range of chemicals, and being pneumatically operated, they are suitable for environments at risk of explosion.

Customer is very satisfied with the products and the short lead time it takes for the customised AOD pumps to be supplied.

All Pumps also supply Wilden spare parts. We also have loads of videos & manuals on our website.

Mine Dewatering submersible bore pump Australia

An All-pumps technician installing a borehole pump package

Dewatering, as the name suggests, is removing water from construction, utility and especially mining sites. Mine dewatering is an essential part of resource extraction, as it lowers the water table around the mine or quarry.

Mine dewatering is usually undertaken for several reasons but following are the main two reasons.

Ensure Stability Of Mine Walls During And After Excavation

In open-pit mines, a water table that is too high can destabilize mine walls, haulage roads, and slopes. Water pressure reduces the stability of mine walls and can lead to sliding and collapse of materials in the slope. In underground mines, the inflow of water must be controlled to prevent flooding, however, a balance must be maintained so that groundwater levels are not needlessly depleted.

Optimise Mine Production And Reduce Operational Costs

Effective dewatering operations create dry conditions so that low-strength aquifer sequence materials (sands, gravel, and clays) can be safely excavated, reducing drilling and blasting costs. Additionally, wear and corrosion on equipment is minimized, and the possibility of pump burn out is reduced by accurately monitoring drawdown.

One of the best dewatering methods is deep wells. A deep well typically consists of a borehole fitted with a slotted liner and an electric submersible pump. Water will then be pumped from the deep well till there is little or no water remaining.

Recently, All Pumps was approached to manufacture a turnkey solution for a mining site’s dewatering project. The aim of this project is to allow the mine operations to mine lower into the ground.

Complete dewatering package with 4 x 45kw bore pumps

We supplied a complete dewatering package with 4 x 45kw bore pumps, head works, and generators. The borehole pumps are running off VSD headworks units and a control panel was also provided to allow them to vary pump pressure as the aquifer drops. The bore pumps are set at 150m down and doing 15 – 20 litres per second.

The major borehole pump manufacturer is Javelin, which is supplied and serviced by All Pumps.

To meet growing demands, food and beverage manufacturers are feeling the heat to ‘up’ their game. There is a need to streamline processes and increase productivity.

One of the most cost-effective ways is to upgrade their current equipment.

A beverage producer wanted a robust pump with high flow rate and efficient consumption. It will be used to unload bins with beverage concentrates.

It is interesting to note that the beverage producer was using a P8 Wilden poly pump but wanted a better AOD pump which will have higher flowrate (lesser unloading time), more robust design and better efficiency (lesser energy).

All Pumps supplied a Graco Husky 2200 poly pump which ticked all the boxes. The customer were stroked with the reduced unloading time which speed up their entire process. The plastic center section on the Graco AOD pump, as opposed to the Wilden’s aluminum, also means that clean-in-place (CIP) chemicals can be used without damaging the pump.

Graco Husky AOD pumps use over-molded diaphragms in their AODD pumps and are much more durable compared to standard diaphragms.
